Mendou invites Ataru & Co. to his estate for a viewing of a large, aging cherry tree named "Tarozakura", which is to be featured in an independent film which happens to be financed by Mendou, directed by Megane, and starring Lum. During filming, Ataru cuts down Tarozakura as called for in the script, but the downed tree starts foaming and disintegrates. Afterwards, bizarre incidents occur all over Tomobiki, a mountain emerges out of the ground, spring gives way to winter, Sakura's ghostly friends disappear, Lum begins losing her powers, and Lum's friends begin acting as though she doesn't exist.

Movie Quote(s):
- [an earthquake erupts] Shinobu: [grabs onto Mendo] Ah! Mendo, I'm scared! Ataru: [grabs onto Shinobu] Ah! Mendo, you're scary!
-
[the frozen dreams collapse, Lum returns, and Ataru approaches her] Shinobu: And from now on, the days repeat on and on as usual, right? Sakura: No, not necessarily. Shinobu: Huh? Sakura: Even if the days go around, in a path of endlessly nearly concentric circles, as a whole, they should ultimately lead us to a new place. Mendou: That means... Sakura: Uh-huh, no one knows what lies ahead of us. Megane: How naive of me to approve of you and Lum, even for a moment. "Mistakes must be corrected at once." DIE ATARU! [the Stormtroopers all open fire on Ataru]

Movie Trivia:
- When Sakura and her ghostly companions arrive at Tarozakura, all of the visitors flee in terror. Among the stampede of people is Kei from "Dāti pea" (1985), who is firing a gun as she runs.
-
A caricature of Urusei Yatsura creator Rumiko Takahashi appears during the Tomobiki town hall meeting scene. She is sitting in the same row as the man speaking to Mendou. She's the short-haired woman with the glasses and the pink jacket, on the lower right-hand corner of the screen.
-
After Megane's house is destroyed by a missile, a model of the USS Enterprise from "Star Trek" (1966) can be seen in the foreground.
-
At the Tarouzakura viewing party, Ataru gives Lum a piece of food from his box-lunch, and she gets angry after tasting it, yelling "What did you feed me?". He had slipped her an umeboshi (pickled plum), which he found out in TV episode #65, makes Oni people intoxicated. He fed it to her as a prank, like some teenagers do at parties when they spike the punch.
-
Lum's "Ultra Super Electric Attack" pose is a parody of "Urutora sebun" (1967). Her pose is Ultra Seven's main attack pose backwards.
