Demolition Man (1993) Los Angeles in the year 1996. The streets are ruled by acts of violence and terror, nothing and nobody is safe. Simon Phoenix is one of the worst criminals that Los Angeles has ever seen, and only one man can stop him - L.A.P.D. officer John "Demotion Man" Spartan. When John apprehended Phoenix, he was surprisingly found as an accessory to the recent crime and was also sent to the "Cryo Prison". During John Spartan's sentence, Los Angeles' theme and society had dramatically changed from one of violence to one of peace. Phoenix, revived for a parole hearing managed to escape and uses Los Angles to his advantage. The Police are unable to stop him with their non-violent solutions and have no choice but to let out John Spartan to stop him. Now, Spartan not only has to stop Phoenix, but to adapt himself to the future society he has no knowledge about.

More Movie Taglines:
  • The future isn't big enough for the both of them.
  • The 21st Century's most dangerous cop. The 21st Century's most ruthless criminal.
  • In the year 2032, Simon Phoenix escapes from prison, on the verge of bringing crime to San Angeles. One man is called back to duty as a last resort. They call him... THE DEMOLITION MAN.
  • In the 21st Century, the police aren't equipped to handle this kind of violence. John Spartan isn't equipped to handle this kind of peace and harmony.
Movie Quote(s):
  • John Spartan: Bad aim, Blondie! Simon Phoenix: Spartan? John Spartan? Aw shit, they let anybody into this century! What the hell you doing here?
  • Edgar Friendly: You see, according to Cocteau's plan, I'm the enemy, 'cause I like to think; I like to read. I'm into freedom of speech and freedom of choice. I'm the kind of guy who likes to sit in a greasy spoon and wonder, "Gee, should I have the T-bone steak or the jumbo rack of barbecued ribs with the side order of gravy fries?" I WANT high cholesterol. I wanna eat bacon and butter and BUCKETS of cheese, okay? I want to smoke a Cuban cigar the size of Cincinnati in the non-smoking section. I want to run through the streets naked with green Jell-o all over my body reading Playboy magazine. Why? Because I suddenly might feel the need to, okay, pal? I've SEEN the future. Do you know what it is? It's a 47-year-old virgin sitting around in his beige pajamas, drinking a banana-broccoli shake, singing "I'm an Oscar Meyer Wiener".
  • John Spartan: Send a maniac to catch a maniac.
  • John Spartan: You're gonna regret this the rest of your life... both seconds of it.
  • Lenina Huxley: I was wondering if you would like to have sex? John Spartan: [surprised] Here? With you? Now? Lenina Huxley: [nervously, nodding] Mm-hmm. John Spartan: Oh yeah.
Movie Trivia:
  • Sandra Bullock replaced Lori Petty after a few days filming.
  • Sylvester Stallone wanted the Simon Phoenix character to be played by Jackie Chan. Chan refused, since Asian audiences don't like the idea of actors who have always played heroes suddenly playing evil characters.
  • Many of the cars in the movie were prototypes of future models, supplied by General Motors.
  • For some non-American releases, references to Taco Bell were changed to Pizza Hut. This includes dubbing, plus changing the logos during post-production. Taco Bell remains in the closing credits. In the Swedish release the subtitles still use Taco Bell while the sound and picture has been altered as above. The original version released in Australia (on VHS) contained Taco Bell, yet the newer version on DVD was changed both in logo and dubbing to Pizza Hut. (If you look closely at the scene where the restaurant patrons are looking through the glass windows to the fight scene outside, you can still see Taco Bell etched into the glass, even in the modified version.)
  • The "ray gun" used by Wesley Snipes in the Museum Armory sequence is based on the Heckler and Koch G11, a prototype weapon for the German army that would have been the most advanced rifle in the world, firing caseless ammunition (bullets, not death rays).
