The title is a pun based on the Glen Miller tune, "Pennsylvania 6-5000". Although this comedy is reputed to be short on laughs, it's long on cast. The main characters: Jeff Goldblum, Ed Begley Jr., Michael Richards, Jeffrey Jones and Geena Davis all average 6' 3" tall. Leonard Maltin, reviewing this film for "Entertainment Tonight" (1981), gave it one of his shortest reviews ever: "Transylvania 6-5000 stunk. I'm Leonard Maltin, Entertainment Tonight."
