Horror Movies & Sci-Fi Movies Database
In the not too distant future, technology allows humans to live their lives through robots they call surrogates. Humans have in effect cocooned themselves in their homes, never venturing outside. Rather, they explore life through their surrogates who may or may not resemble them. Tom Greer and his partner Peters are FBI agents assigned to investigate the destruction of two surrogates that has also caused the unthinkable: the human hosts were also killed. The use of surrogates is not universally endorsed with some humans living in technology and machine-free zones. Led by a man called The Prophet, the fear is that they have put their hands on a weapon that would fundamentally change human society. Greer believes they have also put their hands on a weapon that could fundamentally change society, though he begins to wonder if that might be a good thing.

More Movie Taglines:
- How do you save humanity when the only thing that's real is you?
- Human perfection. What could go wrong?
- [last lines] Male Newscaster: Still no official word on when, or if, surrogate services can be restored. It appears, at least for now that we are on our own.
Female Counsel: Agent Greer, we're not doctors. Tom Greer: Honey, I don't know what you are. I mean, for all I know, you could be some big, fat dude sitting in his stim chair with his dick hanging out.
[first lines] The Prophet: Look at yourselves. Unplug from your chairs, get up and look in the mirror. What you see is how God made you. We're not meant to experience the world through a machine.
Big Woman: [aiming her shotgun] You're an abomination.
Older Canter: Surrogacy is a perversion. It's an addiction. And you have to kill the addict to kill the addiction.
- The VSI building was depicted by using a digitally altered version of the Dallas Bank of America Plaza (informally known as 'The Green Building').
When agents Greer and Peters first visit VSI, they walk past a group of video screens showing VSI commercials and other programming. In part of one screen is briefly seen a rotating model of a Terminator T-800 head. Jonathan Mostow was the director of Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines (2003).
Some scenes were filmed at the Draper Factory in Hopedale, Massachusetts.
A close up shot of Strickland's FBI file shows his place of birth as Lynn, Massachusetts. Lynn is also the real life birth place of actor Jack Noseworthy, the actor who plays Strickland in the film.
During the opening montage showing the development of the surrogates, there is a shot of an Asian man with an android twin. This is actually footage of Dr. Hiroshi Ishiguro of Osaka University and his creation - Geminoid, a prototype android double of himself.
