A young man, Peter, returns to Austria in search of his heritage. There he visits the castle of an ancestor, a sadistic Baron who was cursed to a violent death by a witch whom the Baron had burned at the stake. Movie Trivia: Originally director Mario Bava didn't want to shoot the film outside of Italy but after producer Alfred Leone found the castle location in Vienna, Austria Bava decided it was a perfect setting for the film. The Vienna castle that the film was shot at was actually a museum that was filled with valuable antiques; among them a chair valued at a half a million dollars. At first Vincent Price was approached to star in the production but Price declined. Then Ray Milland was considered, however Milland was unable to travel to the shoot. Finally veteran actor Joseph Cotton was suggested and to Bava's surprise Cotton accepted the role. Producer Alfred Leone cameos in the film as one of the passengers aboard the plane during the opening credits. Reportedly the first film to ever be shot aboard a 747 aircraft.
