Cat's Eye (1985) Three horror-thriller tales revolve around a mysterious stray cat which is attempting to find a little girl in trouble. In "Quitters, Inc.": the cat is picked up by a shady New york "doctor" who uses experimental techniques to get people to quit smoking. His latest client is a man named Morrison, who learns he'll suffer some terrible consequences if he tries to cheat. In "The Ledge": the cat is picked up by Cressner, a shady Atlantic City millionaire who forces tennis pro Norris (his wife's lover), to walk a narrow ledge around his high-rise penthouse apartment. In "The General": the cat arrives in Wilmington, North Carolina, where it is found by Amanda, the young girl it has been sent to protect. What she needs protection from is a tiny, evil troll who lives behind the skirting board in her bedroom.

  • Sally Ann: Polly got in one good peck before that cat killed her. Good for Polly! Hugh: I certainly never realized that Polly had such a big pecker.
  • Johnny Norris: [to the pigeon pecking at his ankle] You flying shit house!

Movie Trivia:
  • References to other Stephen King works: - James Woods watches The Dead Zone (1983) and inquires, "Who writes this crap?" - The cat is chased by a St. Bernard, a reference to Cujo (1983). - The cat is almost run over by a red Plymouth Fury with a bumper sticker saying, "I am Christine," a reference to Christine (1983). - Amanda's mother is reading Stephen King's book "Pet Semetary" in bed.
  • Cressner promises Robert Hays's character that if he wins their bet he'll get, "the girl, the gold watch, and everything," a reference to The Girl, the Gold Watch & Everything (1980) (TV), which starred Hays.
  • Stephen King wrote this script with Drew Barrymore in mind because of her performance in Firestarter (1984).
  • Against the director's wishes, the studio cut out a prologue that explained the cat's motivations. They considered it "too silly". As a result, many viewers were confused by the connection between the three stories.
  • In "The Ledge", Cressner flips through a magazine on the coffee table. That magazine is the July 1976 issue of "Penthouse", which featured the short story the segment was based on.
