Movie Trivia
- Two different versions of this film: one for the theatre, one for video. The difference is that in the theatrical version, it appears that the film begins to burn, however, in the video version, this segment is replaced by a segment which simulates a broken VCR machine.
- Dr Catheter can be seen carrying a pod from Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956).
- When one of the gremlins gets injected with the bat serum and becomes a bat, it breaks through the window and forms in the broken glass the logo for Batman (1989), another Warner Bros. release.
- The dentist gremlin says "Is it safe?", a reference to Marathon Man (1976).
- Gizmo refers to Mr. Wing as "Keye Luke " - the actor's real name.
- Leonard Maltin is attacked by Gremlins for panning the 1984 movie.
- An obvious reference to Wizard of Oz, The (1939) : One gremlin is dressed as the Wicked Witch of the West, melting, saying, "I'm melting! What a world! What a world!"
- The scene where Kate tells the story of encountering the flasher dressed as Abrahahm Lincoln on Lincoln's birthday was intended as a parody of a scene in Gremlins where she tells Billy about her father's accidental death one Christmas.
- The character Daniel Clamp, obviously based on real-life real estate tycoon Donald Trump, falls for Billy's manager, Marla Bloodstone, at the end of the movie. Donald Trump was married to Marla Maples.
- Joe Dante had originally planned for this movie to spoof its predecessor, and elements of this "spoof" are displayed throughout the movie (ie, Kate's monologue, the gremlins being less threatening and more funny, etc)
- When the woman in the cinema complains to the theater manager, played by Paul Bartel, he replies that they only show the films, they don't make them. This is a reference to _Secret Cinema, The (1969)_ , directed by Bartel, where they *do* make the films they show.
- Mr. Futterman (Dick Miller (I)) vanquishes the bat-gremlin by pouring cement over it, which flies onto the roof of a cathedral and turns into a gargoyle when the cement sets. This is a homage to _Bucket Of Blood, A (1959)_ , which stars Dick Miller as a wannabe artist who creates a sensation in the art world with his "sculptures", created by the same method.
- In a corridor, the nameplate for a Dr. Quatermass can be seen. Quatermass is the main character in a number of British television series and movies, including "Quatermass Experiment, The" (1953).
- The tubby Gremlin with the thick lips and cigar is clearly meant to be Edward G. Robinson, in his gangster persona
Movie Mistakes
- Continuity: When Daniel Clamp shoves the gremlin into the paper shredder in his secretary's office, you clearly see all of the gremlin go into the shredder, feet first, to exit as green goop. But in one brief shot of Clamp sitting there after he has dispatched it, you can see the gremlin's severed talon (a hand or foot) on the table in front of him, next to the paper shredder.
- Miscellaneous: Two versions of the film exist, one for film and one for video (see "alternative versions"). While the home video version does not include the clip with Hulk Hogan, his name and the name of the theater manager are still featured in the credits on both versions.
- Continuity: When Mogwai Daffy is biting the guard's nose, the guard's hat falls off. Moments later, it is back on.
