 The day after a homecomming basketball game and the victory party, an all-nighter scavenger hunt is held on the campus of a small Ohio collge. But also in attendence is a killer, wearing the dancing bear costume of the school mascot whom gets killed, is around stalking a number of cheerleaders and killing them with a variety of sharp knifes. The campus chief securty officer Mac (Hal Holbrook) whose daughter was a victim of a similar killer, tries to find out whose behind it before more killings happen.

Movie Trivia:
- The films trailer was shot years after the movie itself was. It features a scantly-clad young woman in bed talking about how weird things have been lately, while short clips of the movie play. The actress never appears in the actual film though.

Star Hal Holbrook shot all of his scenes in one day. His footage was edited into the film to make it seem like he was interacting with the other cast members, though his footage was shot separately.

This film was shot in 1982 under the title The Scaremaker. It didn't see a release until 1984 when distributors picked it up and re-named it Girls Nite Out to play up the lurid angle for marketing.

The films title for its release in Spain was Creando el terror, which means "Creating the Terror."
