Horror Movies & Sci-Fi Movies Database
Eighteen years after their sci-fi adventure show "Galaxy Quest" was canceled, actors Jason Nesmith, Gwen DeMarco, Alexander Dane, Tommy Webber, and Fred Kwan are making appearances at sci-fi conventions and store openings in costume and character. They're wallowing in despair and at each other's throats until aliens known as Thermians arrive and, having mistaken the show for fact and consequently modeling their entire culture around it, take them into space to save them from the genocidal General Sarris and his armada.
The show has been cancelled...but the adventure is just beginning.

More Movie Taglines:
- The show has been cancelled...but the adventure is just beginning.
- A comedy of Galactic Proportions
- Jason Nesmith: Never give up. Never surrender.
Jason Nesmith: As long as there is injustice, whenever a Targathian baby cries out, wherever a distress signal sounds among the stars, we'll be there. This fine ship, this fine crew. Never give up... and never surrender.
Sir Alexander Dane: You don't hold the turbo down, it's for quick boosts! Jason Nesmith: Oh, like you know!
Voice of Computer: Negative, there is no replacement Beryllium Sphere on board. Gwen DeMarco: [to crew] No, there is no replacement Beryllium Sphere on board. Tommy Webber: You know, that is really getting annoying! Gwen DeMarco: [shouts] Look! I have one job on this lousy ship, it's *stupid*, but I'm gonna do it! Okay? Tommy Webber: Sure, no problem.
Gwen DeMarco: [backstage at the convention] I mean, this is unreal. They're gonna start eating each other out there.
- The evil warlord Sarris was named for film critic Andrew Sarris, who once trashed producer Mark Johnson's The Natural (1984). Sarris' metal eye-patch mimics that worn by General Chang (Christopher Plummer) in Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country (1991).
The rock monster is a mock tribute to William Shatner, who desperately wanted to put rock monsters in the climax of Star Trek V: The Final Frontier (1989), but had to cut them out of his script for budgetary reasons. There are a couple of references to "Star Trek" (1966) episode #1.18, "Arena", particularly the suggestion to "build a weapon" during Jason's encounter with the rock monster.
The character Guy is based on "Star Trek: The Next Generation" (1987) background and stand-in regular, Guy Vardaman. Vardaman stated that he was told a year in advance that a film would have an "homage" to him, and Vardaman initially believed this would occur in the film "Free Enterprise", a comedy revolving around a pair of Trekkies and starring William Shatner as a lampoon of himself. Vardaman viewed Free Enterprise and thought that some of the events depicted in the film mirrored parts his own life, and thought that was the homage he had heard about. However, months later, Vardaman and a friend watched Galaxy Quest and, according to Vardaman, "I just about fell out of the chair!" He had completely forgotten about any "homage" until he saw the movie in theaters.
Instead of ripping off the standard Star Trek "Swooosh-thweep" sound for their automatic doors, the NSEA Protector's automatic doors were given the same "Tweeep-Clunk" sound effect as the doors in the original version of the video game Doom (1993) (VG).
When the crew are eating aboard the ship, they are told that the food has been prepared based on their regional cuisine. The commander comments that the steak tastes like Iowa Beef. This seems like a subtle reference to the fact that Captain Kirk (Star Trek) is from Iowa.
